Sarebbbe uscito un rapporto nel quale sembrerebbe che i dirigenti di Hollywood abbiano etichettato Robert Pattinson ”Rip-Patz” (rip è stracciare, rompere in lingua inglese, ma anche RestInPeace : Riposa in Pace ndt) a causa delle sue recenti basse performances al botteghino, post-Twilight.  The Daily Mail (inglese, non sempre la fonte più affidabile,  perciò  credete a quello che volete) sottolinea il  flop recente di BEL AMI e  l’uscita  di Cosmopolis nel Regno Unito come la prova che la sua carriera non sarà in grado di decollare dopo che la serie di Twilight sarà finita. Non sono sicuro che BEL AMI e Cosmopolis siano i migliori esempi per dimostrare se un attore è bancabile, ma la notizia mi ha colpito in quanto una svolta interessante per una delle star più popolari del pianeta. Personalmente, non sono sicuro di quello che il pubblico veda in lui e non ho mai pensato a me come un fan di Robert Pattinson, ma non mi piace anche quando i dirigenti di Hollywood fanno generalizzazioni su qualcuno senza considerare tutti i fatti.

Passando in rassegna  i film di Robert Pattinson, esclusa la serie di Twilight e HARRY POTTER E IL CALICE DI FUOCO. Aveva fatto HOW TO BE e Little Ashes prima di Twilight, di cui tutt’e due hanno fatto praticamente nulla al botteghino .Concentrandosi sul post-film di Twilight, ha fatto Remember Me (19 milioni di dollari in USA) nel 2010, Water for Elephants ($ 58.7 milioni negli USA nel 2011 e Bel Ami ($ 82’000 negli USA  ma ancora nelle sale) nel 2012. Certo, quelli non sono numeri grandi per  una qualsiasi stella, ma voglio sottolineare che tutti questi film sono drammi di nicchia con registi praticamente sconosciuti. Non riuscivo a vedere nessuno in questi film un successo potenziale al box office anche con un’altra qualsiasi star.  Infatti,si potrebbe dire che per alcuni di essi che senza Robert Pattinson, tali film non sarebbero stati nemmeno visti.

 Se andiamo a giudicare R-Patz sulle prestazioni economiche dei suoi film allora perché non  fare altrettanto con altre star responsabili di film che hanno avuto performances negative? Per fare degli esempi: George Clooney (THE AMERICAN, 38 milioni di dollari, e molti altri suoi film), Brad Pitt (Sette anni in Tibet, $ 38 milioni, tra molti altri suoi film), Tom Cruise (MAGNOLIA, $ 22 milioni) e Bruce Willis (La Storia di noi due/STORY OF US $ 27 milioni, tra i tanti altri) hanno avuto la loro parte di film che hanno lottato al box office. E  tra un film e l’altro del genere hanno avuto successi di grosso budget come MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, Die Hard, OCEAN’S 11, ecc. Non è vero lo stesso con Robert Pattinson e i film di Twilight? Ha i suoi film per fare soldi e poi fa i drammi di nicchia che vuole fare.

Il punto è che non sappiamo quello che Robert Pattinson può fare al box office post-Twilight , perché Twilight stesso ha consumato quasi tutto il suo tempo fino ad ora. Ma ora che non ha alcun impegno con l’universo di Twilight, può concentrarsi il suo tempo su film di qualità con registi di talento. All’orizzonte, ha diversi progetti, tra cui la Mission: Blacklist, The Rover con Guy Pearce, un film ancora senza titolo nuovamente in coppia con David Cronenberg e un biopic su The Band . Se tutti quei film non riusciranno a stupire critica e pubblico, allora forse possiamo iniziare a scrivere il suo necrologio a Hollywood. Ma fino ad allora, diamo a Robert Pattinson una giusta opportunità per dimostrare che è più di Edward Cullen.

The point is that we don’t know what Robert Pattinson can do at the box office post-Twilight because Twilight has consumed almost all his time up until now.  But now that he doesn’t have any commitments to the Twilight universe, he can focus his time on quality films with talented directors.  On the horizon, he has several projects, including the military interrogator drama MISSION: BLACKLIST, THE ROVER with Guy Pearce, an untitled re-teaming with David Cronenberg and a biopic on The Band.  If all of those films fail to impress critics and audiences alike, then maybe we can start writing his Hollywood obituary.  But until then, let’s give Robert Pattinson a fair chance to prove he’s more than Edward Cullen.

    Oh, io adoro questo signor Sturdivant. Ha fatto una disamina obbiettiva della carriera di Robert e ha riconosciuto che alcuni suoi film (compreso Cosmopolis secondo me) avrebbero incassato sicuramente meno se non ci fosse stato lui bel cast.

    finalmente qualcuno che analizza obbiettivamente la cariera di robert! ancora all’inizio della carriera e già lo danno per defunto… gente che non vede oltre il proprio naso! è come giudicare uno studente all’esame di maturità senza dargli la possibilità di fare le prove scritte e orali. diamo tempo al tempo, in modo da dargli la possibilità di trovare la sua giusta strada e crescere…

    Grazie a Dio esistono i Brad che sanno vedere oltre, documentare obiettivamente e recensire con assoluta onesta’ privi di pregiudizi e stereotipi e che soprattutto riconoscono le qualita’ di un uomo a prescindere dai titoli che qualcuno vuole a tutti i costi etichettargli. E’ un vero piacere leggere di persone positivamente costruttive dopo tante letture miserevole, indegne di essere pubblicate. Un grazie dal profondo del cuore da chi, come me e tante altre, amano questo ragazzo e lo sostengono senza riserve nella sua crescita, perche’ crescera’ moltissimo a dispetto di tutto e tutti.
