Bogani scrive: A Cannes, quando lo incontriamo, Robert Pattinson è sereno, sorseggia una Schweppes, mangia un panino. E ascolta David Cronenberg come se fosse un santone, un padre, un guru. Cronenberg è il regista del suo ultimo film, Cosmopolis. Un incubo contemporaneo, in cui Pattinson interpreta un mago della finanza, uno di quelli che guadagnano milioni di dollari con un clic. Attraversa, noncurante, una Manhattan in fiamme, con i segni di un mondo – il nostro – che crolla, chiuso nell’involucro inviolabile della sua Limousine. In fondo, è una Limousine perfetta anche la sua fama. Il suo successo, arrivato travolgente dopo il film che ha girato in parte in Toscana, Twilight. Pattinson è diventato immediatamente il sogno proibito di milioni di ragazzine. E oggi, a ventisei anni, deve darsi da fare per dimostrare che lui è un attore vero, non un vampiro che ha succhiato il successo da un solo film.

“Twilight è stato un incidente di percorso per lui”, dice David Cronenberg, all’incontro con la stampa, sulla terrazza di un hotel di Cannes. “Robert è un attore straordinario, che prima di quel film aveva già affrontato prove importanti. E’ diventato pop suo malgrado”.
Twilight è stato anche il film che ha fatto scoprire a Pattinson la Toscana. La Toscana più bella, quella di Montepulciano e della Val d’Orcia. E’ a Montepulciano, infatti, che nel 2009 Pattison girò New Moon, il secondo film della saga di Twilight. In verità, nel romanzo quelle scene si svolgevano a Volterra, a non troppi chilometri di distanza. Ma la produzione trovò più suggestivo girare a Montepulciano – cittadina che era stata già set del film internazionale Sogno di una notte di mezza estate con Kevin Kline, e alcune scene di Nostalghia di Andrej Tarkovskij e del Paziente inglese di Anthony Minghella. E’ a Montepulciano che scoccarono i primi baci veri, cioè fuori set, tra Pattinson e Kristen Stewart, Bella di nome e di fatto del film. Una love story che prosegue tutt’ora.

A Cannes Pattinson glissa sull’argomento, Kristen Stewart è lì, con un altro film, On the Road di Walter Salles. E diplomaticamente ci dice: “Sì, ho visto il film; è curioso perché dentro c’è un sacco di gente che conosco…”
La sua popolarità le dà sicurezza? E dopo aver interpretato il ruolo in Cosmopolis?
Neanche per sogno! Prima di girare un film, mi sento come se stesse per venirmi un infarto. E poi, io sono un insicuro perenne. Per giorni, sono rimasto in albergo a chiedermi come avrei dovuto interpretare il personaggio, temendo il fallimento più totale, finché David non è venuto da me, il weekend prima del primo ciak.
E che cosa le ha detto Cronenberg?
Mi ha detto semplicemente di non preoccuparmi. Mi ha detto: non pensare a niente, semplicemente pronuncia le parole che hai imparato, e andrà tutto bene. E in fondo, aveva ragione lui.
Quanto sente la responsabilità di un ruolo, prima di iniziare a girare?
Moltissimo; io amo molto le parole che mi vengono affidate, sento il ritmo del personaggio. A volte noi attori crediamo di essere tanto bravi da poter ‘migliorare’ una sceneggiatura. Beh, quando pensiamo questo, è la volta che siamo stupidi. Non c’è proprio niente da migliorare, in una sceneggiatura.
Cosmopolis parla di finanza. E’ un mondo che tu conosci, quello della finanza, degli investimenti coraggiosi, del gioco con le azioni?
No, per me la finanza non ha senso!”, ride. “Non ci ho mai capito niente, e non ci capirò mai niente.
Quanto è difficile vivere se si è Robert Pattinson?
So di essere un privilegiato, ma so anche che ci sono dei problemi anche per uno come me. Per esempio, mettere insieme la vita privata e il lavoro è molto difficile. E poi non potrei andare facilmente fuori a divertirmi senza creare problemi a me e agli altri. Ma questo non mi pesa, non sono mai stato una persona sociale, in ogni caso. E poi, tutta questa mitologia lo so che è fasulla, quasi tutte le persone che mi mitizzano se stessero due ore con me si annoierebbero!.
Non si annoia, invece, a stare con lui David Cronenberg. Tra i due c’è stato proprio un colpo di fulmine. David sembra aver trovato l’interprete ideale, e Robert una specie di spirito guida, che lo accompagnerà fuori dal mare facile ma stagnante della gloria per teenager. E insieme, i due faranno un altro film: “Sì, vogliamo girare ancora un film insieme, anche se non so ancora quando inizieranno le riprese”, dice Robert.
E alla fine dell’incontro, gli chiediamo una cosa ovvia, un po’ da fan.
Dato che ha girato in Toscana e ha vissuto in Toscana, potrebbe fare un saluto alla nostra rivista?
Ma sì: ciao Firenze! – dice, ridendo. In realtà, dice “ciau Firèunzi”, ma l’effetto è irresistibile.

His success , overwhelming, came  after New Moon,  shot also  in Tuscany, from the Twilight Saga. Pattinson became immediately the “wet dream” of millions of little girls. And now, the  twenty-six years guy, must work hard to prove that he is a real actor, not a vampire that has sucked the success from one film.

“Twilight was an accident  for him,” says David Cronenberg, at encounter with the press, on the terrace of a hotel in Cannes. “Robert is an amazing actor, who before that film had already done challenging movies. He became popular against his will.”
Twilight was also the film that made Pattinson  explore Tuscany. The most beautiful Tuscany, Montepulciano and the Val d’Orcia. And  in Montepulciano, in fact, that in 2009 Pattinson  did New Moon, the second film in the Twilight saga. To tell the truth, those scenes in the novel took place in Volterra, not too many miles away. But the production found in Montepulciano a  most impressive  set  -  a town that had been set of the international film Dream of a midsummer night with Kevin Kline, and some scenes of Andrej Tarkovsky Nostalgia and The English Patient by Anthony Minghella. And in Montepulciano  flashed the first real kiss,  outside the set, between Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Bella  (Beautiful her name means and beautiful she is too )in the movie. A love story that still continues.

At Cannes Pattinson skated over the subject, Kristen Stewart is there, with another film, On the Road by Walter Salles. And he says diplomatically: “Yes, I saw the film, it is curious because inside there is a lot of people I know …”
Your popularity gives you security? And having played the role in Cosmopolis?
Rob: Not at all! Before shooting a movie, I feel like I was going to have a heart attack. And then, I’m an insecure perennial. For days, I stayed at the hotel asking myself  how I should play the character, fearing the most complete failure,  until David came to  visit me, the weekend before the first take.
And what  did  Cronenberg say to you?
Rob: He simply said : don’t  worry. He said: do not think about anything, just pronounce the words you have learned, and everything will be fine. And basically, he was right.
How much you feel the responsibility of a role before you start filming?
Rob: Very much, I really love the words that I have to say , I feel the rhythm of the character. Sometimes as actors, we think we are both good actors  and “improve” a screenplay. Well, I think that’s  the moment when we’re stupid. There’s just nothing to improve, in a screenplay.
Cosmopolis discusses finance. It ‘a world that you know,  finance,  courageous investments ?

Rob: No, for me  finance it makes no sense! “He laughs. “I never understood anything, and I’ll never understand anything about it.
How hard is it to live if you are Robert Pattinson?
Rob: I know I’m privileged, but I also know that there are problems even for someone like me. For example, to combine work and private life is very difficult.  I couldn’t easily go out and have fun without creating problems for me and others. But  I do not mind this, I was never a social person, in any case. And then, all this mythology, I know it’s fake, almost everyone who think I am a Myth will be bored after two hours with me !.
Cronemberg , instead, is not bored to stay with him. Between the two there was quite a ” love at first sight”. David seems to have found the ideal interpreter, Robert, and for him, David is a sort of spirit guide who will accompany him out of the stagnant sea of ​​ easy teenager glory.  And together, they  willmake another movie: “Yes, we will  turn another movie together, although I do not know when we will start shooting,” says Robert.
And at the end of the meeting, we ask the obvious,  we ask to say hallo to his  fans.
Since you shot a movie in Tuscany and had lived in Tuscany, could say hello to our magazine?
Rob: Yes sure , Ciao Firenze (Hi, Florence)! – Says, laughing.  To tell the truth he says  ”ciau Firèunzi”, but the effect is irresistible.
