box office update: The Twilight Saga Eclipse

According to Box Office Mojo, Eclipse has finally ended its run in american theaters with a total of $300,531,751 in the domestic market. International sales still continue, and there are some countries where it has not even opened yet!

The $300,531,751 will easily put Eclipse into the top 10 films of the year, and in all likelihood it will stay in the top five.

The summer release was an interesting experiment since the other films opened at Thanksgiving time. Eclipse certainly benefited by a summer of lackluster films that had lots of PR, but in the end didn’t live up to the hype. In short it lucked out by not having lots of competing films. Rather than see a movie that got panned, people went back and saw Eclipse again. Granted, folks tended to see it more than once anyway, but the movie choices or lack thereof this summer certainly helped.

Secondo quanto riportato da Box Office Mojo, Eclipse ha terminato la sua corsa nei cinema americani il 21 ottobre, con un incasso, per i soli Stati Uniti di 300.531.751 dollari. La sua corsa non è ancora conclusa per altri mercati (in Giappone esce a Novembre, come è noto, ed è il motivo degli articoli su Eclipse e su Rob che arrivano dal Giappone ).
Eclipse è attualmente il 4 film più visto dell’anno in America, l’esperimento di farlo uscire in estate da un lato ne ha avvantaggiato il debutto, non avendo forti competitori in contemporanea, ma per molti analisti ha mostrato il suo limite sulla lunga distanza (anche se il dato finale americano è sovrapponibile a quello di New Moon, anzi, è migliore visto che new moon sul mercato interno chiuse con 296.623.634 dollari. ) E’ abbastanza evidente come le persone lo abbiano visto più volte al cinema. Come osservazione nostra, aggiungo che la questione della minore tenuta sulla lunga distanza complice proprio l’aver scelto l’estate, riguarda appunto l’Europa soprattutto. Aspettiamo i dati dal Giappone. Ma è difficile pensare che Eclipse porti a casa i 19 milioni che servono per battere, nel mondo, New Moon.Ma lo vedremo, al prossimo aggiornamento.
